Come Away With Me…
August 5, 2012
Pontoons and fishing boats hum through the channel at
low throttle. Rubbery lily pads bob in the waves at the
shore, sliding slyly further out into the channel. Green and red-throated
humming birds flit tentatively closer and then swoop brazenly within a foot of
my face, jeering me to stop them.

Between kayaking, Speed Scrabble tournaments, family movies,
and Olympic-inspired cheering, we keep finding ourselves back here, near the
water. Ebony pearl gnats hover on the surface on the lake, mirrored back as
beads; and the cattails rustle in the wind.

I sneak away to a small cafe off an old time Main Street. Bulk candy stores, fudge shops, and green awnings look sleepily down on Sunday afternoon campers and tourists. Grabbing a twelve ounce latte, I plug in my bulky laptop, sworn to guard it with my life, and peak in to greet you, friends.
Come away with me…
Wish I could! Regular or decaf latte? flavored or plain?
I almost could. I am vacationing near the Twin Cities with my kids to see family. My husband and daughter went on a father/daughter Boundary Waters canoe with his dad, sister, brother and niece. They returned, my husband had to get back to work in AZ and the kids and I have extended time with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Cabinart/Jana,
Mmm, fully caffeinated, and just regular. Mochas are good too. At home: fresh-brewed black coffee, no extras.
Once I paint my kitchen, I look forward to framing and hanging your two prints you mailed me. I'll send you a photo once I do, but it will take a while.
I wish you were nearer to talk over coffee too. 🙂

Tandemingtroll,
That would have been fun! I was further up north then, and am back home here now again too. How fun that your husband and daughter get to have a canoe trip together.
Feel free to email me more details of your locations anytime too… 🙂 I love getting together with old and new friends.
Enjoy this time with family!

Thanks for the invite.
Those steps look so inviting! Like a place I would love to sit and read a book. Beautifully written post!
Lolita,
Have a great year of work at school. 🙂 I'm gearing up for another year of homeschooling soon too – unpacking boxes and organizing today.
Heather,
I brought up some books and my Bible there this weekend too. Ahhhh… peace. 🙂
Dolly,
I'm excited for you in this new process nonetheless. May God lead and guide you, friend.
